This project is intended for children age 8+. Trade friendship bracelets with your friends then hang them from a plastic bracelet to display them proudly from your backpack!

Step 1
First, click here to learn how to make the striped friendship bracelet.
Step 2

Make a tassel from craft cording. To do this:

  • Gather a few cords around your hand about 20-25 times or until you get the desired fullness of your tassel.
  • Cut cord from skein. Slide another piece of cord through the loops then slide the loops from your hand. Tie a knot in the cord and leave the tails long.
  • Wrap another piece of cord a few times around the outside of the loops, just below the knot.
  • Tie off the cord and trim the ends.
  • Add a dab of glue to secure ends.
  • Finally, cut the bottom loops open and trim to even tassel strands.
Step 3

To make the Rainbow Loom® bookworm:

  • Place three rubber bands across the first two vertical pegs of the loom. Place three more rubber bands across the second and third peg. Repeat up the column, overlapping as you work up the pegs. Alternate colors.
  • At the end, hang two rubber bands off the peg at the end.
  • Wrap a rubber band around the top peg three times as a capping band.
  • Turn your loom around.
  • Reach your hook inside the peg with the capping band, grab the three rubber bands, pull them up through the peg and move them forward to the next peg. The two bands you hung from this peg will be “trapped’ inside the band move. Leave them alone for now.
  • Reach your hook inside the next peg, grab the rubber bands and move them forward. Repeat up the column.
  • Attach a C-clip to the end and gently remove from loom. The clip is a temporary.
  • Trim the loose bands on the opposite end open and time them in a knot to make the antenna.
  • Slide your hook through the bands in the center and pull them up to create an arch to simulate the shape of a worm.
Step 4
Add pony beads to a plastic bracelet and through the tails of the bracelets and or tassel.
Step 5
Slide bracelets, bookworm and/or tassel onto the plastic bracelet.
Step 6
Add a word or name to your plastic bracelet with alphabet beads.
Step 7

Slide the plastic bracelet through a loop on your backpack.
