blue ombré feather macramé earrings
Step 1 |
First, measure and cut the below lengths of bamboo cording: |
Step 2 |
Align the ends of a 3" [7.6 cm] cording piece and fold in half. Lay it down, horizontally, on your working surface. |
Step 3 |
Repeat Step 2 with another 3" [7.6 cm] piece but lay it on top of the first one with the fold arranged on opposite ends. |
Step 4 |
Reach in through the fold of the top piece and grab the ends of the piece from the bottom. Pull them up, through the loop. Reach under the fold of the bottom piece and grab the ends from the top. Pull them up, through the loop. |
Step 5 |
Pull ends and allow the fold of each to slide towards each other until they meet in the middle. |
Step 6 |
Slide an eye pin vertically through the centre of the folds. |
Step 7 |
Tighten and straighten the cording so the folds are nice and flush against the eye pin. |
Step 8 |
Repeat Steps 2-5 around the same eye pin with the remaining cords. Work in ascending order down the eye pin. |
Step 9 |
Use a comb to fringe the cords. |
Step 10 |
Trim and shape into a feather. |
Step 11 |
Carefully open the loop at the top of the eye pin, slide on a fishhook earring and close the loop. |
Step 12 |
Repeat Steps 1-11 for a second feather earring. |
Step 13 |
To dye and create the ombré effect, add water and navy dye to a disposable cup. Mix well. |
Step 14 |
Hook your earrings over the cup and allow the ends to soak in the dye-bath. The blue will seep up the fibres to create the blue ombré. Let set in the cup for about an hour. |
Step 15 |
Lay your earrings on paper towels to dry then comb and trim, if needed, to re-shape. |
