Print Project

Step 1

SIZES:
To fit baby 6/12 (18/24) months.
GAUGES:
19 sts and 38 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Garter Stitch with smaller needles and MC.
9 sts and 10 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Stocking Stitch with larger needles and A.
SPECIAL STITCH(ES) EXPLANATION(S):
- Kfb = Increase 1 stitch by knitting into front and back of next stitch.
- Ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left hand needle, then knit through back loops together.
NOTE:
- The instructions are written for the smaller size. If changes are necessary for larger size, then the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to both sizes.

Step 2

INSTRUCTIONS:
First Earflap:
**With smaller needle and MC, cast on 6 (8) sts.
Row 1: (WS). Knit.
Rows 2 and 3: Cast on 2 sts. Knit to end of row. 10 (12) sts at end of 3rd row.
Row 4: K1. Kfb. Knit to last 2 sts. Kfb. K1. 12 (14) sts.
Rows 5 to 7: Knit.
Row 8: K1. Kfb. Knit to last 2 sts. Kfb. K1. 14 (16) sts.
Rep Rows 5 to 8 twice more. 18 (20) sts.
Work even in garter st (knit every row) until work from beg measures 2¼ (2½)" [5.5 (6) cm], ending on a WS row.** Break yarn. Leave sts on a st holder.
Second Earflap: Work from ** to ** as given for First Earflap. Leave sts on needle. Do not break yarn.
Join Earflaps: Next Row: (RS). With RS of Second Earflap facing, smaller needles and MC, cast on 5 sts.  K18 (20) sts of Second Earflap. Cast on 26 sts. K18 (20) sts from First Earflap. Cast on 5 sts. 72 (76) sts.
Work even in garter st (knit every row) until work from joining Earflaps measures 3¼ (4¼)" [8.5 (11) cm], ending on a WS (RS) row.
Size 18/24 Mos Only: Next Row: (WS). *K2tog. K17. Rep from * to end of row. 72 sts.
Both Sizes: Dec as follows:
Row 1: (RS). *K7. ssk. K2tog. K7. Rep from * to end of row. 64 sts.
Row 2 and WS Rows: Knit.
Row 3: *K6. ssk. K2tog. K6. Rep from * to end of row. 56 sts.
Row 5: *K5. ssk. K2tog. K5. Rep from * to end of row. 48 sts.
Row 7: *K4. ssk. K2tog. K4. Rep from * to end of row. 40 sts.
Row 9: *K3. ssk. K2tog. K3. Rep from * to end of row. 32 sts.
Row 11: *K2. ssk. K2tog. K2. Rep from * to end of row. 24 sts.
Row 13: *K1. ssk. K2tog. K1. Rep from * to end of row. 16 sts.
Row 14: *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 8 sts.
Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end tightly through rem sts. Sew centre back seam.
Pom-Poms (Make 2).
With larger needles and A, cast on 9 sts.
Work even in garter st (knit every row) until work from beg measures 4” [10 cm]. Cast off, leaving a long end. Weave end through all 4 edges of work. Place small amount of stuffing in centre and draw end to cinch into pom-pom. Sew pom-poms securely to Hat as seen in photo.

Pom-Poms (Make 2).
With larger needles and A, cast on 9 sts.
Work even in garter st (knit every row) until work from beg measures 4” [10 cm]. Cast off, leaving a long end. Weave end through all 4 edges of work. Place small amount of stuffing in centre and draw end to cinch into pom-pom. Sew pom-poms securely to Hat as seen in photo.
