A cute nod to retro velvety pinwheel cushions, this crochet pillow is worked in the round in a zig-zag pattern to create generous, luxurious pleats. Made in 2 colors of super silky Bernat® Velvet™, it's fun to co-ordinate this piece with your living space!

Print Project

Step 1

FINISHED MEASUREMENT: Approx 18” [45.5 cm] diameter

GAUGE: 11 sc and 12 rows = 4” [10 cm]. Take time to check your gauge.

SPECIAL STITCHES:

 - First Popcorn: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Drop loop from hook, insert hook in 3rd ch of ch 3 and pull dropped loop through
 - Popcorn: 4 dc in next sc. Drop loop from hook, insert hook in first dc of 4 dc group and pull dropped loop through


NOTE: Work stripe pattern in rows:

 - With B – 6 rnds. With A – 2 rnds. With B – 2 rnds.
 - These 10 rnds form Stripe Pat.


INSTRUCTIONS:

FRONT

With A, ch 4. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1. 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: First popcorn. *Ch 1. Popcorn. Rep from * around. Ch 1. Join with sl st to top of first popcorn. 10 popcorns.

Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc). First popcorn in same sp as sl st. *Ch 1. Popcorn in next ch-1 sp. Popcorn in next popcorn. Rep from * around, ending with: Popcorn in last ch-1 sp. Join with sl st to top of first popcorn. 20 popcorns.

Rnd 4: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 3 sts. 2 sc in next st. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 50 sc.

Rnd 5: *Ch 7. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 5 ch. Sl st in next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * 24 times more, ending with sl st in last sc. Join with sl st to first sc. 25 points.

Step 2
Proceed in Stripe pat, work in rnds, turning at end of each rnd as follows:

Rnd 1: (RS). With B, ch 1. *Working in rem loops of foundation ch, 1 sc in same sp as sl st. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. (1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in side of last sc. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Skip next sl st and sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.

Rnd 2: (WS). Skip first sc. *Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in next ch 1 sp. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Skip next 2 sc. Rep from * around, ending with: 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Skip next sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.

Rnd 3: (RS). Skip first sc. *Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in next ch-2 sp. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Skip next 2 sc. Rep from * around, ending with: 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Skip next sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.

3 rows of Stripe Pat are completed.

Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last 2 Rnds until 10 rnds of Stripe Pat are complete.  Cont with A only until work between outer points measures 18” [45.5 cm] in diameter.

BACK

Work as given for Front substituting A for B and B for A.


FINISHING: Sew Front and Back tog through back loops, matching points of Front with valleys of Back and leaving opening for pillow form. Insert pillow form. Sew opening closed.
