aquamarine chip statement earrings
Make these Aquamarine Chip Earrings from natural, semi-precious chip beads. Pair the beads with findings like spacer beads, used in non-traditional ways, to make this unique fashion statement.
Step 1 |
Measure and cut a 6" [15.24 cm] length of wire. About 1" [2.54 cm] from one end, bend the wire to 90° angle creating a tail that is 1" long [2.54 cm]. |
Step 2 |
Create a small loop using round nose pliers. Simply grasp the 90° bend with round nose pliers so that the wire tail is resting between the jaws of the pliers. |
Step 3 |
Using your fingers, bend the wire tail over the top jaw of the pliers until you reach the bottom jaw. |
Step 4 |
Release the grasp on the wire and reposition the pliers so that the bottom jaw is now the top jaw. Finish bringing the wire tail around so that the tail is now perpendicular at another 90° angle. |
Step 5 |
With the chain nose pliers, grasp the loop firmly between the jaws. Grasp the wire tail with round nose pliers and begin to wrap the wire tail around the wire stem. Wrap the wire tail around three times. |
Step 6 |
Trim the short wire tail with flush wire cutters. Cut as close to the wire wraps as possible. Use the chain nose pliers to tuck the tail in, if needed, to avoid snagging the wire on clothing. |
Step 7 |
Thread a tiny Gold spacer bead (included with faceted bead) on the wire followed by a spacer tube, two more Gold spacer beads, ½" [1.27 cm] of chip beads, Amber faceted bead, ½" [1.27 cm] of chip beads, two tiny Gold spacer beads, a spacer tube and finally one last tiny Gold spacer bead. |
Step 8 |
Pull the wire up to the top loop and wrap it around wire you already wrapped below the loop. Wrap a few times then cut as close to the wire wraps as possible. Use the chain nose pliers to tuck the tail in, if needed, to avoid snagging the wire on clothing. |
Step 9 |
Carefully open the loop at the bottom of a fishhook ear wire just enough to slide the top loop of your earring. Close the loop. |
Step 10 |
Repeat Step 1-9 for a second earring. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
