april kids club®: pom-pom bumble bee
Step 1 |
To make your bee, you’ll need to make two pom-poms: a larger one for the body and a smaller one for the head. Wrap black yarn loosely around the width of your hand 30 times. Gently slide the entire bundle of looped yarn off your hand, keeping it as still as possible so that you don’t disturb the loops. Make another layer of yarn pom-pom in yellow the same way. Finally, make a third layer of black pom-pom loops. Place all three layers of loops on top of each other being careful not to disturb the loops. |
Step 2 |
Cut a piece of black yarn 10” [25.4 cm] long. Carefully knot a piece of yarn as tightly as you can around the center of the bundle. |
Step 3 |
Snip open all the loops on both ends. Next, trim it with scissors until it’s nice and round and the yarn ends are short enough to be fluffy, not floppy. |
Step 4 |
For the bee’s head, you’ll make a second, smaller pom-pom. Repeat Steps 1-2 but this time wrap the yarn 50 times around your hand and only use black yarn. Trim this pom-pom the same way but slightly smaller. |
Step 5 |
ADULT: Slightly flatten one side of each pom-pom and hot glue them together to make the bee. |
Step 6 |
Cut 4 pieces of a yellow chenille pipe cleaner for the legs. Set aside. |
Step 7 |
Cut a piece of yellow chenille pipe cleaner in half and bend them around making wings. Set aside. |
Step 8 |
Cut two pieces of yellow chenille pipe cleaner 2” [5.08 cm] long and curl the ends to make the antennae. Also, cut a small piece for the stinger. |
Step 9 |
ADULT: Hot glue the pieces to the pom-pom body. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
