3d paper woven easter egg

Challenge your Cricut® skills and make this origami-inspired 3D Paper Woven Easter Egg! Choose printed patterns of cardstock that matches your Easter (or Spring) décor and make this cute DIY!
Step 1

First, click here to take you to Cricut® Design Space™ where you will find the paper flower, butterfly and circle designs. You will need to manually bring in the wave. To do this:

  • Click here to download the wavy shape. Save it somewhere on your computer.
  • Go back to your design in Design Space™ and click the ‘Upload’ icon in the left panel. Next, click ‘Upload Image’ and then ‘Browse’. Find the image on your computer and click ‘Open’.
  • You will need to take away the white space around the image select ‘Simple’ for the image type and ‘Continue’ in the bottom right.
  • In this next screen, touch the area right above the shape and the white space should be removed. If it doesn’t remove the white right below the shape, touch this area as well. Leave the shape white. Click ‘Continue’.
  • Save the cut file and select the image to bring it into your canvas.
  • Unlock the design and size to 8.298"W x 3.1"T and duplicate it about ten times per cardstock style (solid and/or printed).
Step 2

Cut the pieces from assorted coordinating cardstock. Cut all of the pieces for the woven egg, butterfly and dimension flowers. Set aside the butterfly and flowers pieces.

Step 3

To assemble the egg, place one of the circles, face-down, onto your working surface.

Step 4

Now, arrange the pieces from one pattern evenly around the circle, again with the pattern facing your working surface. Make sure the ends are all pointed around in the same direction and hot glue the pieces to the circle, creating a pinwheel-like shape.

Step 5

Repeat Step 4 with the other pattern. The direction of the ends should be pointing in the opposite direction as the ones in Step 4.

Step 6

Place one of the pinwheel-like shapes on top of the other with the circles aligned in the center and the pieces around are off-center from each other.

Step 7

Weave the pieces from the bottom layer over the top layer pieces.

Step 8

Turn the circle as much as you can and then repeat Step 7.

Step 9

Repeat Step 8 until you cannot turn the circle anymore, then weave around the egg from the bottom to the top.

Step 10

Hot glue the top ends wound another circle.

Step 11

Assemble the flowers and hot glue around the top of your egg.

Step 12
Glue the solid wings to the back of the open butterfly shape. Bend the wings at the score lines and glue to a flower as desired.
