Instructions

Step 1
Place Elmer's® Foam Board™ vertically on table. To create look of bag, measure 10cm (4") in from left side and 10cm (4") down from top. Lightly draw pencil guidelines that meet in upper left area of Foam Board™. From that point, draw a diagonal line to the top left corner. At the same angle, draw diagonal lines at the top right and bottom left for the Foam Board™.

Step 2
Use an Elmer's® X-ACTO® Knife (with new blade) and acrylic ruler on Elmer's® Cutting Mat to cut off top right and bottom left corners of Foam Board™ following diagonal pencil lines. (Hint: Score lightly first and then press more firmly to cut deeper, with several passes of the knife. Replace blades often.)

Step 3
Pour acrylic paint into container and add just enough water to create a milk consistency, gently stirring with brush. Use flat brush to paint wiggly outside lines all around outside edge of Foam Board™. Being careful not to get hands in paint, similarly paint over three pencil lines. (Note: on lines representing top of bag, make wiggles smaller to look like irregular edge of bag rim.) Let dry.

Step 4
To show fold in bag, measure and draw light pencil vertical guideline 5.1cm (2") in from left side and near bottom draw diagonal bag lines. To decorate front of bag, measure and draw three vertical guidelines every 10cm (4"). Using round brush, lightly go over guidelines with thin, wiggly lines, gradually starting and stopping every so often.

Step 5
To make oval pattern, sketch 38cm (15") long oval on newspaper. Fold paper into fourths to make symmetrical and cut out. Open and trace pattern onto red fun foam. Cut out with paper edger. Apply Elmer's® Craft Bond™ Glue Stick onto foam oval and attach to front area of bag on Foam Board™.

Step 6
For words, trace "POP CORN" letters onto white fun foam and cut out. Optional: To create dimension with the letters, from remaining Foam Board™, cut pieces approx. 0.63cm x 1.3cm (1/4" x 1/2") to attach with Glue Stick to backs of foam letters.

Step 7
For popcorn kernel, open white sack and carefully crunch in bottom and top. Shape to look like popcorn. Repeat to make a total of 13 kernels. Set aside three kernels. Use Elmer's® Craft Bond™ Tacky Glue to glue eight kernels to top and two kernels to bottom of Foam Board™ bag.

Step 8
For Popcorn hat, use Tacky Glue to connect last three kernels, side by side. Underneath them, shape kernels so that a child's head can fit up into kernel grouping. Glue middle of 61cm (24") length of 0.95cm (3/8") wide ribbon up into this area so that ribbon ends extend down for tying around chin. Let dry before child wears.

Step 9
So that costume can hang from child's neck, hold costume onto front of child to determine where ends of 2.2cm (7/8") wide ribbon should go (approx. 20cm (8") apart ) on top, center back of Foam Board™. (Note: be sure ribbon is long enough for child to remove by going over head.) Glue ends with Tacky Glue and secure with T-pins. (Note: insert "flat" into board so that points do not extend through board.) Let dry before child wears.
