Materials

  • Lion Brand® Homespun® (Art. #790) Yarn – Golden (3 Skeins; A), Ambrosia (3 Skeins; B), Lagoon (1 Skein; C) and Grape (1 Skein; D) or Colours of Choice
  • Lion Brand® Crochet Hook, Size K-10.5 (6.5mm)
  • Lion Brand® Large-eyed Blunt Needle

Instructions

STRIP A (make 3)

With A, ch 38.

Chart A Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 36 sts at the end of this row. Change to B. Do not cut A. Carry old colour across top of row and work sts of next row over the old colour with the new colour.

Chart A Row 2: With B, ch 2, turn, hdc in first 3 sts; change to A, hdc in each st across.

Continue to follow Chart A, working Rows 2–25 for a total of 3 times (73 rows total). Fasten off.

STRIP B (make 2)

With C, ch 20.

Chart B Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 18 sts at the end of this row. Change to D. Do not cut C. Carry old colour across top of row and work sts of next row over the old colour with the new colour.

Chart B Row 2: With D, ch 2, turn, hdc in first 3 sts; change to C, hdc in each st across.

Continue to follow Chart B, working Rows 2–25 for a total of 3 times (73 rows total). Fasten off.

 

FINISHING

Following Assembly Diagram, seam long edges of Strips together. Weave in ends.

Tips

Afghan is made from 5 Strips; 3 of Strip A and 2 of Strip B.

Each Strip is worked in two colours following a colour chart.

When following charts, RS rows are the odd-numbered rows, WS rows are the even numbered rows. Read RS chart rows from right to left and WS chart rows from left to right. Each box represents one hdc.

To change colour, work the last st of old colour to the last yarn over. Yarn over with new colour and draw through all loops to complete the st. Do not cut old colours. Carry old colour across the top of the previous row working over the old colour with the new colour.
