Instructions
Step 1
Join squares together by forming vertical strips. Each strip requires 6 squares. Create 8 strips and join them together to complete a blanket.
Step 2
Join rectangles and strips together by weaving or backstitching the edges together with a yarn needle. Or, you may crochet them together using a single crochet stitch.
Step 3
Many volunteers like to work 2 rows of single crochet around the assembled blanket to give an attractive, finished appearance.
Step 4
Don’t forget to work your ends of the yarn into your finished squares. This saves time during assembly.
For Blankets for Canada, the basic section is a 20.3 cm x 20.3 cm (8" by 8") square. When you combine 48 squares (six across and eight down), you create a full-size afghan, 122 cm x 163 cm (48" x 64"). With just 20 sections (four across and five down), create a lap robe or infant-size blanket 81.3 cm x 102 cm (32" x 40").
