Abbreviations:
MC = Main Colour
A = Contrast A
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
Dec = Decrease
Tree:
With MC, chain 3. Connect to make circle. Leave tail to mark the beginning/end of the circle or use marker.
Row 1: Chain 1. Sc twice in each stitch until end.
Row 2-5: Repeat row 1.
Row 6: Chain 1, sc in back half of “v” all around to end (this helps with the tree to make the “turn” upwards).
Row 7-8: Chain 1, sc to end.
Row 9: Chain 3, dc to end.
Row 10: Chain 1. Sc in stitches 2, 3 & 4, dec in stitches 5 & 6, sc in stitches 7, 8 & 9, dec in stitches 10 & 11. Repeat to the end of row.
Row 11: Chain 1. Sc to end.
Row 12-14 & 15-17: repeat rows 9-11 twice.
(Before closing off the top, stuff.)
Stuffing Options:
Coloured paper shred (shows through the stitches)
Iridescent shred (makes it shiny)
Glass ornament with glitter inside
Once stuffed, gather top & close off.
For hanger: Chain 8, sc in chain 1 and tie off.
3 Tiers of Branches:
With secondary colour, add to tree above Row 9 (first double crochet row). Sc in a stitch. Chain 3. Dc in stitch 2 three times. Sc in stitch 3 & 4. Repeat dc & sc sequence until end. Tie off. Tuck tail inside tree. Repeat 2 more tiers of branches.
